On Sunday July 12, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Cascina Ronchetto will open its doors for Summer Wine Festival, an event dedicated to showcasing the Wines of Varese and the wineries that proudly represent this unique wine-growing area.
One region, seven wineries
The event will bring together the seven wineries of the Vini Varesini (Wines of Varese) association in a single venue:
Cascina Ronchetto
On the green hills of Morazzone, the grapes grown and vinified are mainly Merlot and Chardonnay, with small quantities of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Manzoni varieties. The range comprises red, white and rosé wines, as well as two classic-method sparkling wines that have been aged for over 80 months.
The estate mainly cultivates the prestigious Nebbiolo grape on the ancient terraces of the Angera hills, alongside other red varieties such as Merlot, Barbera and Croatina. Chardonnay and Bussanello produce fresh, fragrant white wines, ideal for aperitifs and dishes from the lake region.
There is also a small production of an excellent botrytised dessert wine
In Casciago, using Nebbiolo grapes, they produce a classic method sparkling wine aged on the lees for at least 30 months, a wine with fine, persistent bubbles. Using Merlot grapes, they produce a still red wine, also available in a Riserva version aged in barriques and terracotta jars.
A family-run winery based in Gavirate, which has been cultivating vineyards in Travedona and Besozzo since 2020. The wines produced are: a red Merlot, a white Traminer and Chardonnay, and a Blanc de Noirs made using the traditional method. All work is carried out exclusively by hand, from pruning to grass cutting, without the use of herbicides.
Emotion Green Wine
In Casciago, they passionately cultivate two hectares of vineyards, comprising Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Kerner. The estate’s small production amounts to around 10,000 bottles, comprising full-bodied and elegant classic-method sparkling wines, as well as still whites and rosés with great character and uniqueness.
Where Lake Maggiore narrows and becomes the River Ticino once more, you’ll find the hills of Golasecca. Here, around 2 hectares are planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Incrocio Manzoni. It is the combination of these grapes that has given rise to our distinctive, unique and remarkable wines.
At the foot of the Monte Orsa-Pravello massif, they have been tending their Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Meunier vineyards since 2016. The grapes from these vineyards are vinified in their cellars with a view to bringing out their truest character, resulting in sparkling wines and a white wine.
This will be a unique opportunity to meet the producers, discover their stories and taste wines that express the character and diversity of the Varese wine region.
